Arshia Kooner
Clinical Counsellor
Arshia is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and has been working in the mental health care field for the last 10 years. She started off working as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and has worked in various different settings, from older adult care facilities and hospitals to community settings. She has experienced working with children and youth, adults, and older adults as both a nurse and a clinical counsellor.
Arshia’s passion for counselling came from wanting to be able to support individuals who are struggling with their mental health and need someone to speak to. She feels its important to provide a space where people feel they can speak their truth with someone that they trust, without the fear of burdening anyone. It supports your need to find clarity with specific situations and experiences while showing you that your feelings are valid. By creating an environment where you feel safe, we can help you manage emotions, address personal issues, and foster your personal growth.
After an accident you may find that you have a fear of driving, are experiencing changes in mood, feel anxious, experience difficulty sleeping or have other symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). While we often focus on the importance of repairing our physical health, it is important we also focus on the recovery of our mental health. Using evidence-based counselling practices, we can find ways to reduce and resolve the body’s response to stress and return to a state where you feel calm and safe again.
Arshia’s goals are to work collaboratively with her clients, using a person-centered approach, and offering them the support that they need to achieve their goals. Qualities such as empathy and warmth are important to her. She hopes to be able to support you and your needs through your sessions.
Arshia offers services in both English and Punjabi.
